I recently finished listening to Inkheart by Cornelia Funke on audiobook. It was a tough slog to the end. While I love the imaginative plot, the execution left quite a lot to be desired.Inkheart is a middle-grade novel that tells the story of Meggie, a little girl who has lived a quiet life with her bookish father, until one day she learns of his terrible gift. The story is full of imagination, adventure and beauty, and yet it simply did not work. It was, in a word, dull. It is possible that it lost something in translation as it was originally written in German. I had to force myself to get through it, and the ending left a lot to be desired. While Inkheart had a solid foundation of imaginative ideas, adventure and beauty, the execution was too long and drawn out for me to enjoy it. I will pass on the rest of the trilogy.2 StarsRead this review and more on The Library Lass Book Talk Blog.
