Ghost Brigades

The Ghost Brigades - John Scalzi My last couple of reads weren't very satisfying, so I decided to read The Ghost Brigades, the second book in the Old Man's War Series by John Scalzi. You may have heard Scalzi's name recently - he won the Hugo award for his novel Redshirts (if you haven't read it yet, go now and get a copy - it is fantastic). The Ghost Brigades was just what I needed - exciting, thought provoking and satisfying.Taking up the Special Forces thread from the first book in the Old Man's War series, The Ghost Brigades tells the story of a solder born to catch a traitor. Similar to the way he used characters and setting to explore ethics in Stargate Universe, Scalzi uses his characters to explore the ethics of colonization. My one criticism of the novel is that the some of the sci bits - the explanations of technology and biology - got a bit long and a bit dry. But it is a minor criticism. Overall, The Ghost brigades was a fascinating and entertaining read.Read this review and more on
